The dining room is called upon to serve as the hub for movement for the house, connecting the the other living spaces to the entry and the bathroom, while providing ample space for the family to dine, work, and entertain.
The existing room was chopped up by a closet monopolizing one corner, making the space cluttered, crowded and almost unusable.
LA NOUVELLE SALLE À DÎNER
The closet is removed and replaced by two full-height walls of deep cabinets.
One cabinet wall buffers the entry to the bathroom and provides space for a small bar.
The other wall creates a built-in dining area with loads of space for the family to eat and study.
The existing dark stained floors are stripped and returned to a natural maple. New warm paint colours, as well as new lighting, doors and hardware complete the transformation.
ARMOIRES DU MUR SALLE DE BAIN ET BAR
The clean white wall of new custom cabinets provides hanging storage for coats and drawers for other seasonal accessories.
Less frequently accessed items are stored in the deep upper cabinets that fill the space about the bathroom door, creating a niche around the door to separate it further from the room.
Rich navy blue cabinets define the small bar space, topped by a figured quartzite counter. Bottle storage is provided in a lower pull out and upper cabinets.

LA CUISINE
Although the kitchen was not renovated in this project, the countertops were changed to match the new quartzine bar, accented by a navy tile backsplash and new pendant lighting, bringing the space into the new design theme.
TRAVAILLANT AVEC L'ESPACE EXISTANTE
Except for removing the existing closet, no other parts of the existing architecture were altered. The existing small wall opening between the dining and kitchen was maintained and infilled with a shallow cabinet for additional bottle storage, finished with frosted glass panels on both sides to let the light pass through.
LES ARMOIRES DE SALLE À DÎNER
The wall of cabinets at the bathroom is mirrored on the other side of the room, here with a corner cut out to form a custom banquette for dining.
The storage wraps the banquette both above and continuing below the seat, adding extra outlets for charging devises while studying.
A semi-custom table finishes off the dining area, with room for eight.
New recessed lighting highlights the table and beautiful graphic wallpaper behind the banquette.

LE PAPIER PEINT GRAPHIQUE
The graphic for the vinyl wallpaper was selected by the owners from Metro Wallcovering's Digital Print Collection and was sized and printed to fit the banquette space.
LA PALETTE DES COULEURS
A palette of colours was developed that satisfies the owners' tastes while coordinating with the existing finishes that were not being changed.
LA TABLE À DÎNER
The semi-custom table was built using a pre-fabricated solid maple top and pre-fabricated tee shape steel legs that allow for easy seating access at the banquette.

LA SALLE FAMILIALE
The existing double in-swing doors took up a lot of space in the room. They were removed and replaced with track mounted sliding doors installed on the inside of the doorway. All elements were stock items, put together to deliver a custom solution specific to this home.
